Shirodhara

Shirodhara is the therapy in which medicated oil,milk,buttermilk or kwatha is poured in a continuous stream of drip on the forehead in a specific manner

Procedure

The drugs used for shirodhara is based on the disease condition of the patient. Depending on the drug components dhara is known as Thakradhara, Ksheeradhara ,Tailadhara, Kwathadhara and Jaladhara. The room should be queit,clean and well ventillated. Patient is advised to lie down in the supine positon and dhara patra should be fixed 4 inches above the forehead. the eyes and ears should be covered with cotton to prevent the entry of liquid. The medication should be poured in the dharapatra, and the flow should be maintained for half an hour to 45 mints', until the treatment. After the process is completed the head of the patient is wiped out and he can have a lukewarm bath.

Do's and Don'ts

The patient should avoid physical exertion ,mental stress, exposure to cold, sun, wind, smoke ,dust etc. and also prolonged walking ,speaking and over straining during this treatment period.
